A portrait of film editor Hamid Najafi

Read on to know more about Iran's master of film editing Hamid Najafi.

Hamid Najafi Rad, born in 1980 in Tehran, is a renowned Iranian editor and filmmaker.

He gained widespread recognition for his work on the film ‘Grassland’ (2021), for which he won the Crystal Simorgh for best editing at the 40th Fajr International Film Festival.

His expertise in film editing has earned him critical acclaim, and his contributions to Iranian cinema have made him a respected figure in the industry.

Najafi’s career in film began in 2009, when he worked as an editor on ‘Goodbye Baghdad’, directed by Mehdi Nadari.

He went on to work on several important projects, including ‘Red Lock’ (2015), directed by Seyyed-Jamal Seyyed-Hatami, and the series ‘Better Days’ by Bijan Mir-Baqeri and Hamid-Reza Lavvafi.

In addition to his editing work, Najafi has also made significant contributions to sound design and title sequences.

One of his key achievements in sound design is his work on the film ‘City of Men’ (2015), directed by Saeed Shekarchi.

In title design, he is notably recognized for his work on the third season of the acclaimed VOD series ‘Shahrzad’ (2019), directed by Hassan Fathi.

Throughout his career, Najafi has built a reputation for bringing coherence to his editing and post-production work. His talent and dedication have earned him multiple awards, including the Crystal Simorgh for best teaser and advertisement for ‘Drown’ (2020) at the 39th Fajr International Film Festival.

Some of his most notable works include ‘When the Moon was Full’ (2019), ‘Dog’s Bond’ (2020), ‘Squad of Girls’ (2021), and ‘Majnoun’ (2024).
